In 2019, a Belgian farmer had to pay on average 304 €/ha per year for the rental of croplands and 267 €/ha for grasslands. In 20 years, the agricultural land renting price of croplands has increased by 64% and that of grasslands by 55%.

The increase is the most significant in Flanders where croplands have increased by 78% and grasslands by 68%. In the Walloon Region, the increase is smaller (+49% and +42% respectively). Croplands are rented 380 €/ha in Flanders compared to 241 €/ha in Wallonia, and grasslands are rented 326 €/ha in Flanders compared to 218 €/ha in Wallonia.

At provincial level, West Flanders is the most expensive with croplands rented on average 454 €/ha and grasslands 415 €/ha. This is more than twice the amounts paid in the province of Luxembourg where agricultural land renting prices for croplands and grasslands amount to 171 €/ha and 158 €/ha, respectively.

The agricultural land renting price is the amount paid annually by the tenant to the landlord for the use of his land for agricultural purposes.
