Indices of wages and salaries: fourth quarter 2020

The index of seasonally adjusted wages and salaries in industry amounted to 110.15 in the fourth quarter of 2020. This represents a decrease of 1.5% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.

The index of seasonally adjusted wages and salaries in construction amounted to 113.4 in the fourth quarter of 2020. This represents a decrease of 1.1% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.

The index of seasonally adjusted wages and salaries in trade and repair amounted to 106.63 in the fourth quarter of 2020. This represents a decrease of 3.7% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.

The index of seasonally adjusted wages and salaries in services amounted to 116.2 in the fourth quarter of 2020. This represents a decrease of 5.2% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.

The use of temporary unemployment in the sectors affected by the crisis caused a negative pressure on wages and salaries. Virtually at a standstill, Section I ‘Accommodation and food service activities’ is the section where the seasonally adjusted index of wages and salaries decreased the most, from 110.4 in the fourth quarter 2019 to 45.9 in the fourth quarter 2020, i.e. a decrease of 58.4 %.

What changes from July 2018

From July 2018 on (reference quarter=first quarter 2018), the indices will be published with reference year 2015 = 100.

These results have been reviewed
