In 2017, the commercial service sector (tertiary sector) employed 42 % of Belgian workers. The non-profit sector (quaternary sector) ranks second in terms of employment with 37 % of the employed.
More than half of employed women (53 %) have a job in the non-profit sector. Men work most often in the tertiary sector (45 %).
20 % of the employed work in the industry (secondary sector): 31 % of men and 9 % of women.
Finally, the primary sector (agriculture and mining) only employs one percent of the employed.
