In December, 1,089 tonnes of fish were landed by Belgian vessels and sold in Belgian ports.
Plaice still ranks first with a share of 27 % of the quantity of fish landed and sold, i.e. 291 tonnes. Landings of sole and ray decreased to 123 and 83 tonnes, respectively, bringing their share to 11 % and 8 %. Landings of cuttlefish register a striking increase to 156 tonnes, bringing its share to 14 %.
Sole once again confirms its importance for Belgian fishing with a share of 31 % of the total value of fish sold. The share in value of plaice and ray is around 14 % and 3 %, respectively. The increase in landings of cuttlefish brings the share in value of this fish to 11 %.
The average price of fish recovered slightly to € 3.87/kg in December 2020.
