Purpose and brief description

Environmental protection expenditure in Belgium includes final consumption expenditure, such as the purchase of garbage bags by households, intermediate consumption expenditure, such as the payment by an enterprise for waste processing services and finally current and capital expenditure by enterprises or public authorities. The methodology applied is naturally similar to that advocated by Eurostat. The NBB (National Bank of Belgium) encodes a sample of municipal budgets and accounts according to the details of the functional and economic classifications (standardized since 1995), in order to produce the National Accounts.
