The total land area is divided here into agricultural land, built-up and related land, and other land.

1.Total agricultural land

• - 1980-present: Statbel agricultural census
• - 2011-present: Statbel agricultural census: based on the location of the administrative headquarters

2. Total forests and other wooded land

• Land Register (FPS Finances)

3. Built-up and related land

• - Land Register (FPS Finances).
• - Section 3.7 also includes some parts of the major watercourses.

7.Water

• - 1955-1976: Eurostat ZPA1.
• - 1985, 2001-present: nowcasting (extrapolation).
• - 1990, 2000: Source EEA-CORINE.
• - 1995: intrapolated.

8.Sea area in the North Sea

• - From 2015: MUMM-BMM-UGMM

9.Other land

• - Residual category calculated by subtracting all other categories from land area (section 10).

10.Land area

• - 1955-1979, 1981-1984: Eurostat ZPA1.
• - 1950, 1980, 1985-present: Land Register (FPS Finances)
