For all service sectors combined, as they are processed in this statistic, “HTNXK Total services excluding NACE code K (Financial and insurance activities)”, the volume of sales increased by 1% in December 2024 compared to December 2023.
The increase in sales volume for all service sectors combined is due to a higher sales volume in the NACE sections “L Real estate activities” (+5.4%), “M_STS Professional, scientific and technical activities excluding NACE codes 701, 72 and 75” (+4.1%) and “H Transportation and storage” (+1.9%). In all other NACE sections monitored in this statistic, the volume of sales is decreasing. The sharpest decrease is registered in “J Information and communication” (-1.7%).

Statbel publishes these indices based on REGULATION (EU) 2019/2152 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 27 November 2019 on European business statistics as regards services. According to that regulation, the indices are established on a monthly basis from reference year 2021 onwards. For the reference years 2000 to 2023, Statbel published a statistic produced on a quarterly basis.
Monthly indices are expressed with reference year 2021=100. In addition to gross indices, Statbel publishes indices adjusted for seasonal and working day variations.
