Significant progression of the flu and other respiratory diseases in 2015

The 2015 statistics on causes of death just published by Statbel, the Belgian statistical office, show that:

the diseases of the circulatory system (28.4 % of all causes of death) remain the leading cause of death, followed by tumours (25.9 %) and diseases of the respiratory system (10.7 %). This ranking remains the same in all regions.

the flu and lung diseases (4,431 deaths) registered a record increase (+29.6 %; 4,431 deaths), placing 2015 well above the previous "epidemic" years (3,725 cases in 2012 and 3,934 deaths in 2013).
