Peeters, Janssens and Maes are the most common surnames

Peeters, Janssens and Maes remain the three most common surnames in Belgium, according to the list of the 10,000 most common surnames of Statbel, the Belgian statistical office. Jacobs and Mertens complete the Belgian top 5.

In Flanders, Peeters, Janssens, Maes, Jacobs and Willems are the five most common surnames.
In Wallonia, the top 5 is totally different: Dubois, Lambert, Martin, Dupont and Simon.
In Brussels, the five most common surnames are Diallo, Bah, Barry, Sow and Nguyen; Janssens ranks sixth.
