January 2019: 833 bankruptcies

In January 2019, 833 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt.

The bankruptcies resulted in a loss of 1,780 jobs: 951 full-time employees, 452 part-time employees and 377 salaried employers lost their jobs.

The number of bankruptcies in the last six months amounts to 5,076, a decrease of 0.7% compared to the same period last year.

In the last six months, compared to the same period last year, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector dropped by 11.5% In construction this number dropped by 1.5%; whereas in commerce there was a decrease by 7.8%. The hotel and catering industry dropped by 0.7%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services rose by 7.0%.

At regional level and in the same period there was a rise by 0.2% in the Flemish Region, a decrease of 7.8% in the Walloon Region and a rise of 4.2% in the Brussels-Capital Region.
