Hotels and youth centres the main victims of the Covid-19 crisis in September

The number of overnight stays in Belgian tourist accommodations was 2.33 million in September 2020. There were 1,611,437 overnight stays in the Flemish Region, 615,662 in the Walloon Region and 106,444 in Brussels.

This is a decrease of 35 % compared to September 2019. The Covid-19 crisis is making itself felt in the three regions, but in a totally different way. Brussels lost 83 % of the number of overnight stays, Flanders 29 % and Wallonia 12 %.

Not only hotels, but also youth hostels/youth centres were hit hard in September, with a decrease in the number of overnight stays of 53 % and 75 %, respectively, compared to September 2019.
In contrast to August, there was a new increase in the number of overnight stays in all Belgian camping sites (+17 %), while the decrease for holiday homes was a little less pronounced (-3 %). Tourist accommodations also registered good results (+31 %), as in the previous months.
