Statbel, the Belgian statistical office, publishes today the annual dairy statistics for 2020.
Compared to the previous five years (annual average for the period 2015-2019), Belgian dairy companies show a higher production in 2020 for practically all product categories. Only cheese production came to a standstill, while ice cream production is falling sharply.
Compared to the previous period, there is in 2020 an increase in production of as much as 45% for condensed milk and 11% for milk powder. Butter and fresh dairy products both increased by 5%. The increase of drinking milk remained limited to 4%. Goat's cheese is also on the rise (+32%), although its production share in Belgium remains, with 10,000 tonnes, rather small.
