9.1% decrease in goods unloaded in Belgian ports

In the third quarter of 2024, the total quantity of goods unloaded in Belgian sea ports amounted to just over 35 million tonnes. This is a decrease of 9.1% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 1.6% compared to the same quarter of 2023. This is what emerged from the new results of Statbel, the Belgian statistical office.

The quantity of loaded goods decreased by 7.2% compared to the second quarter of 2024 and increased by 0.3% on an annual basis to just over 31 million tonnes.

In the third quarter of 2024, the total number of sea-going ships arriving in Belgian sea ports amounted to 5,567. This is an increase of 0.2% compared to the previous quarter and a decrease of 1.3% compared to the same quarter of 2023.

The total number of sea-going ships departing from Belgian ports was 5,586, i.e. a 0.8% increase compared to the second quarter of 2024 and a 1.4% decrease compared to the same quarter of 2023.
