Organic farming continues to grow in Belgium. There were 8.8% more new farms with organic production and certified areas for organic farming or areas in conversion exceeded 80,000 hectares in 2017.
In Flanders, the number of cattle increased by 67.6%, mainly among the dairy cattle. In Wallonia, however, the different sectors of animal production have evolved at similar rates.
Finally, in both the North and South of the country, the organic poultry sector has been boosted by the increased number of laying hens.
