In May 2025, 8,091 new enterprises were created, 1,100 enterprises were re-registered and 6,220 were de-registered.
The total number of VAT-registered enterprises increased by 2,971 or 0.2% compared to April 2025.
First registrations
In May 2025 first registrations[1] increased by 6.6% in all sectors to May 2024. That is 500 more births than last year.
Re-registrations
As for re-registrations, all sectors combined, we observe a increase by 14.2% compared to last year. This is an increase of 137 companies.
De-registrations
In May 2025, the number of de-registrations is 3.8% lower compared to May 2024. This is a decrease of 248 units.
Evolution of the population of VAT-registered units
In May 2025 we observe a 1.6% growth of the VAT-registered population over a year. The total population of VAT-registered units increased by 18,675 units compared to May 2024 and amounts to 1,201,099 enterprises.
[1]Since March 2025, newly registered VAT-liable companies receive an activity code based on NACE 2025. While most of these codes can be converted to NACE 2008, some cannot. As a result, the number of companies with an unknown activity code has increased.
