72% fewer spectators in Belgian cinemas in 2020

In 2020, Belgian cinemas had 5,538,934 spectators, a decrease of 72% compared to 2019. The gross revenue excluding VAT fell to 45 million euros, also a decrease of 72%.

In 2020, our country had 78 establishments that run a cinema theatre as their main activity: 7 in the Brussels-Capital Region, 34 in the Flemish Region and 37 in the Walloon Region.

The Flemish Region accounted for 49% of the spectators, the Walloon Region for 35% of the spectators and finally the Brussels-Capital Region for 16% of the spectators.
