Statbel, the Belgian statistical office, publishes today the figures from its survey on holidays and travels for the fourth quarter 2024. During this period, 4,276,000 trips were made in Belgium or abroad.
3.8% decrease in travel compared to the 4th quarter 2023
In the fourth quarter 2024, there were 1.3 million domestic trips and 3.0 million trips abroad. Compared to the same quarter in 2023, these are decreases of 8.5% and 1.6%, respectively.
19.2% increase in travel in Italy compared to the 4th quarter 2023
The two destinations abroad with the largest increase compared to the 4th quarter 2023 are Italy (+19.2%) and the Netherlands (+16.8%). France remains the most popular destination for Belgians, with 0.8 million trips in the fourth quarter 2024, despite a decrease of 0.5% compared to 2023.
15.1% decrease in trips to cities of art compared to the 4th quarter 2023
Most domestic destinations register a decrease in the fourth quarter 2024 compared to the same period the year before. Indeed, we see a decrease of 11.3% in the number of trips to the Ardennes and and of 15.1% to cities of art . As for trips to the coast, they increased by 7.7%.
