109 bankruptcies in week 1

During the week from 3 to 9 January included (week 1), the business courts pronounced 109 bankruptcies, resulting in a total of 153 job losses.

The number of bankruptcies shows a clear increase compared to the last week of 2021 and the first week of the years 2020 and 2019. However, it should be noted that the weeks 1 of 2019 and 2020 contained a public holiday, during which the business courts were closed, while week 52 of 2021 was in the year-end period when the number of registered bankruptcies falls sharply.

This is what emerged from the weekly bankruptcy figures produced by Statbel based on the orders of business courts. These interim weekly estimates make it possible to quickly observe the first trends.
