Storms reduce the quantity of fish landed in February

In February, there was a sharp decrease in the quantity of fish landed by Belgian vessels and sold in Belgian ports to 922 tonnes.  This decrease is due to the many storms in February.

Cuttlefish and sole rank first with a share of 19 % and 18 %, respectively, of the quantity of fish landed and sold, i.e. 174 tonnes and 169 tonnes. The landing of plaice dropped to only 73 tonnes.

Sole, which was worth € 15.63 per kilo in February, accounts for 54 % of the total value, while the share of plaice dropped to 3 %.  Cuttlefish accounts this month for 12 % of the value, mainly due to the landings.  Besides sole, turbot still registered top prices in February with € 16.54 per kilo.
