September 2018: 897 bankruptcies

In september 2018, 897 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt.

The bankruptcies resulted in a loss of 1,359 jobs: 629 full-time employees, 383 part-time employees and 347 salaried employers lost their jobs.

The number of bankruptcies in the last six months amounts to 4,302, a decrease of 6.3% compared to the same period last year.

In the last six months, compared to the same period last year, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector dropped by 14.4% In construction this number rose by 0.1%; whereas in commerce there was a decrease by 10.6%. The hotel and catering industry dropped by 13.7%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services dropped by 0.1%.

At regional level and in the same period there was a decrease by 7.1% in the Flemish Region, a decrease of 18.4% in the Walloon Region and a rise of 7.7% in the Brussels-Capital Region.
