Retail trade recovery starts in May

In May 2020, the beginning of the de-confinement due to the COVID-19 crisis had an impact on the volume of sales in retail trade. The volume of sales, excluding fuels, has increased by 1.5 % compared to the same month last year. In the same period, the sharpest increase was again registered for “Retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet”, i.e. a rise of 47.8 %.

We also notice significant increases in “Food, beverages and tobacco” and “Audio and video equipment, hardware, paints and glass, electrical household appliances, etc.” of respectively 10.8 % and 4.2 %.

The sales of “Automotive fuel in specialised stores” and “Textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods” remain well below the values of last year with decreases of 30.3 % and 27.5 % respectively.
