March 2019: 948 bankruptcies

In March 2019, 948 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt.

The bankruptcies resulted in a loss of 2,745 jobs: 942 full-time employees, 1,410 part-time employees and 393 salaried employers lost their jobs.

The number of bankruptcies in the last six months amounts to 5,559, a rise of 0.2% compared to the same period last year.

In the last six months, compared to the same period last year, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector dropped by 5.9% In construction this number dropped by 0.5%; whereas in commerce there was a decrease by 5.7%. The hotel and catering industry rose by 0.4%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services rose by 5.7%.

At regional level and in the same period there was a rise by 5.6% in the Flemish Region, a rise of 1.7% in the Walloon Region and a decrease of 8.4% in the Brussels-Capital Region.
