July 2018: 689 bankruptcies

In july 2018, 689 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt.

The bankruptcies resulted in a loss of 1,132 jobs: 519 full-time employees, 340 part-time employees and 273 salaried employers lost their jobs.

The number of bankruptcies in the last six months amounts to 4,725, a decrease of 4.7% compared to the same period last year.

In the last six months, compared to the same period last year, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector dropped by 13.8% In construction this number rose by 0.8%; whereas in commerce there was a decrease by 6.3%. The hotel and catering industry dropped by 15.3%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services rose by 2.5%.

At regional level and in the same period there was a decrease by 9.4% in the Flemish Region, a decrease of 19.1% in the Walloon Region and a rise of 19.9% in the Brussels-Capital Region.
