January 2020: 930 bankruptcies

In january 2020, 930 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt.

These bankruptcies resulted in a loss of 1,718 jobs: 891 full-time employees, 465 part-time employees and 362 salaried employers.

The number of bankruptcies in the last six months amounts to 5,171, a rise of 1.9% compared to the same period last year.

In the last six months, compared to the same period last year, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector dropped by 1.9% In construction this number rose by 3.2%; whereas in commerce there was a rise by 3.2%. The hotel and catering industry dropped by 6.1%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services rose by 5.3%.

At regional level and in the same period there was a rise by 6.0% in the Flemish Region, a rise of 9.0% in the Walloon Region and a decrease of 9.9% in the Brussels-Capital Region.
