Consumer price index of March 2017

  • Inflation in March has gone down from 2.97% to 2.28%.
  • This decrease is mainly due to the fact that the effect of the increased tax on energy, which was introduced in the Flemish Region in March 2016, has faded away and to the decline in inflation for fruit and vegetables.
  • The consumer price index this month has increased by 0.24 points or 0.23%.
  • Inflation based on the health index has declined from 2.47% to 1.79%.
  • The main upward pressure in March came from fruit, electricity, bundled telecommunication services, domestic heating oil and restaurants and cafés. However, especially package holidays in Belgium, vegetables, motor fuels, flowers and plants and holiday villages had a decreasing effect on the index.

The consumer price index amounts to 104.91 points in March 2017. It has increased by 0.24 point over the month. Inflation has dropped from 2.97% to 2.28%.
