Increase in output prices for fruit less pronounced than in 2019

In May 2020, the overall agricultural producer price index remained at a level similar to the previous month.

Just like in April, the index for animal products decreases by 7 % in May compared to the previous month. All sectors are affected by this downward trend, except for adult cattle, for which prices remain stable.

Conversely, the horticultural index increases by 19.4 % compared to April. Driven by the price of strawberries, the index for fruit increases as the summer approaches, but less markedly than last year: +52.2 % between April and May 2020 compared to +74.2 % between April and May 2019. The index for inedible horticultural products follows a similar trend while the index for vegetables decreases.
