February 2019: 909 bankruptcies

In February 2019, 909 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt.

The bankruptcies resulted in a loss of 1,420 jobs: 678 full-time employees, 335 part-time employees and 407 salaried employers lost their jobs.

The number of bankruptcies in the last six months amounts to 5,508, a decrease of 1.4% compared to the same period last year.

In the last six months, compared to the same period last year, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector dropped by 3.9% In construction this number dropped by 2.2%; whereas in commerce there was a decrease by 7.9%. The hotel and catering industry dropped by 2.3%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services rose by 5.8%.

At regional level and in the same period there was a rise by 2.9% in the Flemish Region, a decrease of 3.7% in the Walloon Region and a decrease of 5.6% in the Brussels-Capital Region.
