August worst than July for hotels

The number of overnight stays spent in Belgian tourist accommodations in August 2020 amounted to 4.12 million. 2,750,648 overnight stays were registered in the Flemish Region, 1,232,504 in the Walloon Region and 132,139 in Brussels.

This represents a 27 % decrease compared to August 2019. The Covid-19 crisis was felt in the three regions, but in contrasting ways. Brussels lost 80 % of its overnight stays, Flanders 26 % and Wallonia 5 %.

Hotels remain the main victims of this summer with an occupancy decrease of 53 % in August compared to August 2019. As opposed to July, camping sites (-6 %) and holiday homes (-9 %) also register an occupancy decrease like all sectors except for tourist accommodations (+34 %) which, as in July, register good results.
