12.5 % decrease in retail sales in November

In November 2020, at the beginning of the second wave of COVID-19, shops considered non-essential had to close and some sections considered non-essential in supermarkets were suppressed. The volume of sales in retail trade, excluding fuels, has decreased by 12.5 % compared to the same month last year.

In the same period, the sharpest decreases were registered for “Textiles, clothing and footwear”, “Other retail sale in non-specialised stores”, “Computers, peripheral devices and software; communication devices; sports equipment; games and toys; plants and flowers, etc.”, i.e. decreases of 77,5 %, 58,4 % and 23,2 % respectively.

The sharpest increase was registered for “Retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet”, i.e. a rise of 55.4 %.

These indices are expressed with reference year 2015=100.
