Silc 2009 : dossier material deprivation
Thorough analysis of material deprivation in the 2009 SILC survey
For several years, the EU-SILC survey has allowed quantification of this form of material deprivation. In 2009, additional questions made a more thorough grasp of the issue possible.
The result analysis shows that almost half of people from households at risk of poverty declare that they do not have an Internet connection due to financial reasons, or that they cannot afford to buy new furniture due to the same reasons. Almost a quarter of people from households at risk of poverty indicate problems with the quality of life: litter in the neighbourhood, a lack of space at home, or – to a lesser extent – the deterioration of public amenities in the neighbourhood.
