Harmonised index of consumer prices - May 2017

  • Belgium's inflation rate based on the European harmonised index of consumer prices was running at 1.9% in May compared to 2.7% in April.
  • Core inflation (inflation without energy and unprocessed food) was running at 1.6% in May, against 1.7% in April.
  • The sub-indices with the largest upward effect on inflation were motor fuels, domestic heating oil, tobacco, gas and electricity.
  • Most of the downward pressure on inflation in May came from fruit, clothing, vegetables and housing rent.
  • The harmonised index of consumer prices of May for the EU Member States will be published by Eurostat on 16 June.
