Bankruptcy statistics in Belgium: September 2017

September 2017: 987 bankruptcies

  • In September 2017, 987 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt.
  • The bankruptcies resulted in a loss of 1,841 jobs: 992 full-time employees, 484 part-time employees and 365 salaried employers lost their jobs.
  • The number of bankruptcies in the last six months amounts to 4,589, a rise of 3.2% compared to the same period last year.
  • In the last six months, compared to the same period last year, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector rose by 5.1% In construction this number dropped by 0.3%; whereas in commerce there was a decrease by 1.9%. The hotel and catering industry rose by 8.9%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services rose by 7.1%.
  • At regional level and in the same period there was decrease by 7.4% in Flemish Region, a rise of 5.1% in the Walloon Region and a rise of 26.1% in the Brussels-Capital Region.
