Bankruptcy statistics in Belgium: August 2017

August 2017: 376 bankruptcies

  • In August 2017, 376 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt.
  • The bankruptcies resulted in a loss of 915 jobs: 595 full-time employees, 201 part-time employees and 119 salaried employers lost their jobs.
  • The number of bankruptcies in the last six months amounts to 4,532, a rise of 10.3% compared to the same period last year.
  • In the last six months, compared to the same period last year, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector rose by 6.1% In construction this number rose by 12.9%; whereas in commerce there was a rise by 3.3%. The hotel and catering industry rose by 16.8%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services rose by 13.6%.
  • At regional level and in the same period there was decrease by 1.1% in Flemish Region, a rise of 9.4% in the Walloon Region and a rise of 42.8% in the Brussels-Capital Region.
