Bankruptcy statistics in Belgium: July 2017

July 2017: 508 faillbankruptcies

  • In july 2017, 508 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt.
  • The bankruptcies resulted in a loss of 1,374 jobs: 803 full-time employees, 371 part-time employees and 200 salaried employers lost their jobs.
  • The number of bankruptcies in the last six months amounts to 4,958, a rise of 9.7% compared to the same period last year.
  • In the last six months, compared to the same period last year, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector rose by 4.3% In construction this number rose by 8.7%; whereas in commerce there was a rise by 3.7%. The hotel and catering industry rose by 17.6%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services rose by 13.2%.
  • At regional level and in the same period there was decrease by 0.9% in Flemish Region, a rise of 10.1% in the Walloon Region and a rise of 37.0% in the Brussels-Capital Region
