Bankruptcy statistics in Belgium: June 2017

June 2017: 1.017 bankruptcies

  • In June 2017, 1,017 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt.
  • The bankruptcies resulted in a loss of 2,053 jobs: 1,282 full-time employees, 414 part-time employees and 357 salaried employers lost their jobs.
  • The number of bankruptcies in the last six months amounts to 5,256, a rise of 9.5% compared to the same period last year.
  • In the last six months, compared to the same period last year, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector dropped by 2.2% In construction this number rose by 9.7%; whereas in commerce there was a rise by 2.5%. The hotel and catering industry rose by 14.1%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services rose by 16.2%.
  • At regional level and in the same period there was decrease by 0.1% in Flemish Region, a rise of 6.8% in the Walloon Region and a rise of 40.2% in the Brussels-Capital Region.
