Bankruptcy statistics in Belgium: october 2011

October 2011: 1.091 bankruptcies

In October 2011, 1.091 businesses in Belgium went bankrupt, an increase of 25.7% compared to October 2010.

The bankruptcies in October resulted in a loss of 1.962 jobs: 1.099 full-time employees, 518 part-time employees and 345 salaried employers lost their jobs.

The number of bankruptcies in the first ten months of 2011 amounts to 8.485, a rise of 5.8% compared to the same period last year.

In the last ten months, compared to the same period in 2010, the number of failed businesses in the industry sector fell by 0.8%. In construction this number rose by 10.5%, whereas in commerce there was a increase of 1.1%.The hotel and catering industry finally saw an increase of 8.3%. The number of bankruptcies in transportation and other services rose by 10.8%.

At regional level and in the same period there was a decline by 1.7% in the Flemish Region, a rise by 10.4% in the Walloon Region and a rise by 18.8% in the Brussels-Capital Region.
